Who is Julia Margaret Cameron? A British photographer, she became known for her portraits of celebrities of her time, photographs with Arthurian (King Arthur). Surprisingly she did not start her career till she was the age of 48, obtaining a camera from her daughter as a birthday present. Her photographic career, lasting 11 years (1864-1867) was appreciated by many modern photographers, taking inspiration from her cropped in portraits. Cameron once wrote "I longed to arrest all the beauty that came before me and at length the longing has been satisfied" Now i have to say i am not really in love with her work, but only because portraits are not my thing i find them a little too plain, even if the characters emotion in the photograph has meaning behind it or not
To my left is a photograph of Ellen Terry(16 yrs), titled "Sadness" By Julia Margaret Cameron. I actually think this is my favorite of her images i have seen, i really like the fading background pattern

Birds Eye View (Pre Assignment)
Birds eye view: An elevated view of an object from above, with a perspective as though the photographer, or observer, were a bird. This assignment seems interesting and fun! A great way to really get some great images would be to take a tour of the tower at city hall like Ms. Underwood suggested, but if i am unable to do that, i'll have to get creative. I cant really get as creative as the example below, but we'll see what I can come up with!
Also, see http://kalisdigitalphotos.blogspot.com/2012/02/types-of-perspective-in-photography.html for a great blog example and a good example of a birds eye view image.

Finding Inspiration
I viewed many different artists works at http://www.photoawards.com/en/Pages/Gallery/zoomwin.php?eid=8-42830-12&uid=&code=. We were to look at the work, and compare our own work to those of other non professional photographers. I think looking through this site i have found a a way to show what kind of photography i would like to pursue. I really enjoyed the dark and provocative images. You don't need to have a pretty sun set or a pretty face to produce a beautiful image with an amazing subject that keeps you guessing. When i looked at these images i just wanted to be able to ask the artist so many questions. These images are by Clay Stang, titled "Alberta Ballet Annual Report"
The 3 images are in order from my favorite to least favorite

~ Analogous Colors ~
This assignment was somewhat easier to accomplish because analogous colors are more natural together, and there was more natural situations to photograph rather than creating my own out of uninteresting household items. There weren't any challenges other than figuring out a good exposure for each image, making sure the colors don't blend too close together. So here are a few of my own analogous colors images! (:

~ Complementary Colors ~
This assignment ended up giving me all the trouble i thought it would. I had to resort to creating situations with the objects around me, which were not very interesting. I had some great starts, but couldn't execute them the way i wanted. There were a few I liked, but I'm not very blown away by my work. This could have been easier for me if i had more time to go out and explore the woods and trails around town where there are pretty greens and reds and oranges from autumn.

Henri Cartier Bresson
Henri was a french photographer, thought to be the father of modern photojournalism. He was born August 22, 1908, in France. Bresson became inspired by a 1930 photograph by Martin Munkacsi, a photojournalist. He says "The only thing which completely was an amazement to me and brought me to photography was the work of Munkacsi. When I saw the photograph of the black kids running in a wave I couldn't believe such a thing could be caught with a camera. I said damn it, took my camera and went out into the street." He also covered the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth as his first photojournalism work to be published in 1937.

I like this photograph because it reminds me of a get away scene in an old movie.

this image just seems strong
Analogous Colors (Pre Assignment)
Unlike Complementary colors, analogous colors are the colors next to each other on the color wheel. This will probably be easier to do than the complementary colors assignment because i think there will be more natural situations around me. One thing that worries me is that if i don't figure out a great composition my calm inviting image becomes plain and boring. A great way to grasp this assignment was to go to http://www.photographyicon.com/analogous/.
Some examples of analogous colors.

Complementary Colors (Pre Assignment)
this assignment was to go out and find complementary colors in situations, even if you created it yourself. Because complementary colors are opposite, they give images great contrast in color. 10 images of colors and their opposites may be hard because i feel like generally when combining colors you would want them to flow into one another. A few black and white images will be accepted but it could be too easy if those were the only colors you chose. I think this will be a challenging assignment because there aren't many interesting subjects so i will have to create my own. Below are some examples of complimentary colors

Imogen Cunningham
Imogen was born in Portland, Oregon in 1883, where every
summer she took reading and art lesson paid for by her father. Majoring in
chemistry in 1906, she was inspired by Gertrude Käseb, to take up photography
again. With the help of her chemistry professor, she began to study the
chemistry behind photography and she subsidized her tuition by photographing
plants for the botany department. Later she opened a portrait studio in Seattle
which won acclaim for portraiture and pictorial work. Most of her work at the
time consisted of people in their homes,
in her living room, or in the woods surrounding her cottage. The next year, she
married Roi Partridge, an artist. He posed for a series of nude photographs,
which were shown by the Seattle Fine Arts Society. Imogene took a greater
interest in pattern and detail and became increasingly interested in botanical
photography, especially flowers. Between 1923 and 1925 she produced an in-depth
study of the magnolia flower. Later she turned her eye towards industry,
creating series of industrial landscapes in Los Angeles and Oakland. I like
this artist because i love taking pictures of plants and growth. I also would
like to further my knowledge in botany.
this is photographer Ansel Adams, i chose this picture because it was a more free and fun looking pose than some of the others photographed by Imogen Cunningham.
succulent plant
I like this image because I enjoy its organic nature and have photographed similar subjects.
A Visit to Dr Sooy, 1973
I think this image is very intense. Now i don't think this is the case but when i first look at the image I think of a creepy mental hospital with evil doctors with fake smiles, and suffering patients. this image is just so mysterious and draws you in.

Geometric Shape Patterns
Geometric shapes are everywhere we go, so why not photograph them! I observed repetition in many different environments at home and at school. Some of the pictures I chose may not quite fit the assignment perfectly, but I really enjoyed taking them and trying to create a meaningful composition. I really love the idea of this assignment, and its limits. It could be a very simple and in your face idea, or it could be a complex series of different ideas complied into one great image. When doing this assignment i tried to think about everyday objects that are geometric shapes, that also have shapes within them.

~ White On White Continued ~
So to personally continue the white on white challenge (photographing white on white subjects and situations) I took to my home and searched for pure white objects. I came across some white plates and bowls my mother recently picked up from a yard sale, and utilized them to the best of my abilities. I photographed them in front of my washing machine making it even more challenging to give my subject the correct color it needs and also keep its details while being against a background the same color.

~ White On White Minimalism ~
for this assignment we were to take white objects and put them in a situation with a white background. To get the white object to be its correct color in the photo, you must adjust your white balance according to the lighting, and overexpose the image. i found shots at different angles needed different exposures, sometimes less, sometimes more. my shutter speed was set to the lowest it could go, and my ISO was set between 200 and 400. The subject we used in class were white roses against a solid white background. these are my own photographs, but they have not yet been edited because Photoshop uninstalled its self on my computer somehow :( I will be uploading my personal white on white subject pictures soon once i am able to edit again at home!!
