Ansel Adams

Born February 20, 1902, Ansel Adams and his family moved to California. By age 12 he had been kicked out of several schools and had been taught by private tutors. Adams taught himself the piano, which he fell in love with. By 1916, a trip to Yosemite National Park had kick started his experimenting with photography. His affinity with Yosemite turned into sort of a promotion for the conservation of wilderness areas. He became familiar with darkroom techniques and read photography magazines, attended camera club meetings, and went to photography and art exhibits. His iconic black-and-white images helped to establish photography among the fine art.
