Alfred Stieglitz

Alfred Stieglitz

in 1881, Stieglitz and his family moved from his home of Hoboken New Jersey, and moved to Europe for several years. He bought his first camera and traveled through the Europe taking many photographs of landscapes and peasants in Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. His family returned to their home in 1884, but Alfred remained in Germany for a decade. He began a very extensive library of photographers and photographs from all around Europe and the United States. Alfred spent his 50 year career promoting photography, and making it an acceptable art form. He is also known for the New York art galleries he ran in the early 20th century. I do believe Stieglitz has changed the way the world originally viewed photography as an art, and i would say he would think the same considering he sacrificed his happiness and 50 years of his life making what he wanted possible. Alfred was married to famous painter Georgia O'Keeffe.
